The School Council at Airy Hill gives pupils the opportunity to experience the democratic process of standing for office and election. Successful candidates learn how a formal meeting is run, they chair, minute and make the agenda for each meeting and report back to their classmates.
The School Council representatives for 2019/20 have made a pledge to make Airy Hill School a single use plastic free environment by the time our new starters leave at the end of year 6 (2026). They began their campaign by writing to our school suppliers and asking them what their companies planned to do to reduce their use of plastics.
Representatives also carry out an annual ‘Pupil Voice’ questionnaire, finding out important information which is passed on to the head teacher, teaching staff and governing body who use it to improve the school for everyone.
Key stage 2 representatives are invited to attend Youth Voice conferences allowing them to meet school council representatives from other schools and listen to key-note speakers, discussing a range of subjects.
Meet the team for 2019 and 2020 …
